The Itsy Bitsy Spider....At Our Backdoor

Oh.... the things that entertain us.

Me and Madie have found something to look forward to and keep us entertained. Every night for the past few weeks at 7pm a little (I say little, she's pretty big) spider comes out at our back door at the living room and works diligently and builds a web. She stays there all night and spends the morning hanging out until around 9am. Like clock work, she arrives and departs. Of course, we call her Charlotte and Madie enjoys taking all of her toys to the door to "show" Charlotte. I'm just waiting on a note for us to be written in her web when we get up one morning.

It's a very interesting thing to watch. I think if she didn't show up I might miss her. But believe me....it's all well and good that we watch and observe our "pet" little spider through the glass at the back door. But make no mistake, if she decided that she wanted to come in the house I would step on her without hesitation. So it would be a good idea if she continued to enjoy where she is spending the night.

After Madie's bath around 7pm, we looked to see if Charlotte was out. She was beginning to make her web for the night. I went out on the back porch and took some pictures of Madie and Charlotte. There really is glass between the ugly spider and my baby.

Mother's Day Out Recap

It was reported that Madie had a great day! She only cried when we were getting ready to leave and go home because she wanted to stay and play. I am so proud of her (and myself) for being such a brave little girl today.

Madie got her first "ouch report." She got hit in the head with a hula hoop----they said she didn't cry but it left her with a red mark on her eye and nose....wow! She's brave and tough.

Here's a few pictures:

Madie waiting to go to Open House

Madie's big day....it was raining, so we got a little wet.

She's so excited!

Already busy at work, before I even leave the room.

Yea! We made it through the first day. I think we/ I can do this!!!!!!!

Bye Mommy, Have a Good Day

I'm sitting at home alone.....as the song goes....all by myself... at least for a little while longer.

Today was the day....Madie started her Mom's Day Out school. Only one day a week on Tuesday's but still...this is a big deal. Thankfully our neighbor is her teacher. Thank you Mrs. A, if you are reading this, I'm so glad you are Madie's teacher.

Last night was open house. Hubby came home from work early so he could also attend. Madie was like a kid in a candy store. She couldn't stop talking about the other boys and girls.

This morning as we walk in the rain to the door Madie let me take a few pictures. (I'll post some of those later) When we got to her room I gave Mrs. A her backpack and started to walk out the door. Madie turns to me and says, "Bye Mommy, have a good day." Talk about tugging at your heart. I'm so glad she didn't cry as I left and I'm proud to know that she was so confident with herself that she acted like she had done this 100 times before. I'll report back after I pick her up and see if this confidence lasted throughout the day.

Double Yuck Day

I have been so lucky since Madie was born. Knock on wood....I haven't had any illness/sickness that has knocked me on my fanny. I'm not completely on my fanny but I certainly do not feel up to par.

Yesterday I went to the "Doc-in-a-box" with what I thought was just allergies/sinus problems. They said I have an upper respiratory infection ---yuck! And today when I woke up I felt double yuck! It was one of those days where I stayed on the couch Madie in sight or within hearing range all day and I think we have watched 2 movies and about 4 Dora's.

As the day has gone on, I am feeling much better. I just wanted to brag on my Madie and what a sweet little angel she has been all day.

Thanks pumpkin bug for taking care of Mommy today :)

Follow The Yellow Brick Road

This weekend Hubby took Madie to the Alabama Theater to see one of her most favorite movies. The Wizard of Oz! Madie loves this movie. While most kids her age and older are scared to death of the witch and odd looking monkeys.....she loves it. She knows the songs and dances and would probably watch it everyday ...if I would let her.

I had made plans to take her and something came up that I needed to do for a friend on Saturday (love you T if you read this) so hubby stepped up...thank you hubby... and took her to see it. She was so happy to spend the day with her Daddy and couldn't stop talking about going to the movies and seeing "Blue Bird."

Hubby said she really enjoyed herself and ate lots of popcorn. He also said that before the movie started a couple came and sat down in front of them and the couple gave each other a kiss. Hubby said that Madie looked at him and said "kiss" since she had seen the couple in front of them kiss. I hope that this is not what she thinks that you do in a movie theater...I will have to go to every movie she wants to go and see until she's 18. This same couple apparently didn't find Madie's singing and dancing as entertaining as we do and she has a great "Somewhere over the rainbow" routine. He said the couple got up and moved during the movie and that the people behind them loved her enthusiasm and laughed and giggled at her the whole time.

I'm so glad they were able to spend the day together--

A Little Potty Humor

Here is a little potty humor.

Today my little Madie was acting as if she was about to go #2. Sometimes she will come to me and say "Mommy, help." When she does this I know she is going to put her head in my lap or I need to hold her and pat her back while she proceeds to do her "business." Oh, the things you do for your kids.

So, she comes up to me and asks me for help and I oblige and then she looks up at me appearing to have completed the task and ask for a change. When I go to change her diaper I realize that she hasn't gone #2 but she was about to. So, I grab her and run and sit her on her potty. She can go tee tee in the potty by herself but only when she wants to----which is not that often. But today I had her. There was no stopping it. She sat there and did #2 in her potty----oh what a celebration we had and what a smile she had on her face. And she was able to eat a pack of smarties at 9am as a reward.

A few minutes later I had gone to use the bathroom (#1 if anyone is wondering) and called Madie to see if she wanted to flush for me. She looked in the toilet jumped up and down and said "yea, good job mommy!"

I hope we can keep up the excitement.

Grand Opening Smorgasbord

A smorgasbord for anyone who hasn't seen Charlotte's Web is: a meal served buffet style, consisting of a large variety of hot and cold dishes. The key words here is large variety.

The Grand opening for the New Publix close to our house was today. We went to the library this morning to see Mr. Mac and decided to stop by the new store and see what kind of deals they had for the day. Little did I know we would happen upon a smorgasbord of taste testing goodies.

This is what Madie sampled:
chicken nugget x's 2--she ate mine too
pasta
hot dog bites
pineapple
honey dew melon
sausage
smoothie drink
cookie from the bakery
strawberry ice cream
crab dip with crackers

Madie also received 2 balloons and I got a carnation and a canvas grocery bag (oh, the little things that make a stay at home mom feel special).

Welcome to the neighborhood Publix---it's nice to have you.

Needless to say, when we got home to have lunch, Madie wasn't interested. She was full from her Publix smorgasbord.

What A Difference A Year Makes!

It was one year ago today that Madie took her first step by herself.

$2 Can Buy Happiness

Saturday night we went to eat Mexican (Madie's favorite) before my parents headed back home. After we ate, we were walking past a Dollar Tree store that is in the same shopping center and noticed that they already had their Halloween decorations out (are you kidding me, I guess since it has cooled off a bit retail is ready for trick or treating).

We (Me, Nana & Madie) decide to go in and look around, thinking that we may be able to find a Charlotte. Madie is a big fan of Charlotte's Web and has been asking for a spider for some time now. Not the typical toy for a 2 year old girl I know, but she has been wanting one. So, we go in and right in the entrance is all of these ceramic figurines. And what does she spy? A pig. She sees it and yells, "Oh, Wilbur!" We try to leave the store and she pitches a fit to get the "breakable" pig, so of course, we get it for her. She is all smiles and then says, "what about Charlotte?" So what do I do? I go in, buy a bag of plastic Halloween creatures, which includes a spider and give it to her.

She had never been happier and smiled all the way home. They slept in the floor next to her and have gone everywhere with her today. Who would have thought, with all the toys she has, this is what put a smile on my babies face and brightened her day today.

Here they are.....Wilbur & Charlotte

Ceramic pig = $1
Plastic spider = $1
A smile on my babies face = PRICELESS!

Cinderelly! Cinderelly!

Nana and Paw paw came to visit this weekend. They came over on Friday and spent the night so that they could go with me and Madie to see Cinderella at the Alabama Theater on Saturday.

Hubby had to attend a co-workers daughters wedding in T-town so he was not able to attend.

Madie had a great time! We all did for that matter....even Paw paw.
Next week is The Wizard of Oz....we are already talking about it and can't wait.

There's a Little Monkey In Our House

There is a little monkey in our house!

Madie has learned to climb and I think she tries to scale everything in the house now. Why sit down in a chair normally when you can crawl/climb over the arm of the chair to get to the desired location?

The other night when I was getting Madie ready for bed she said, "Mommy watch!" She took off and scaled the side of her baby bed and flipped herself in. I couldn't help but laugh, but I also wondered....how long will it take her to realize that if she can climb in...she can climb out. I am betting that it won't take long. It looks like we will be converting her baby bed into a toddler bed soon. Yet another milestone to be met. However, I'm really not looking forward to her having the ability to roam around the house at night. I can see it now, she'll come into our room at 2am and say, "hey mommy, what you doing?" Since she no longer uses her pass she already stays in her bed and talks forever before she goes to sleep. I can only imagine what she will do not being confined in a crib.

On another note: We were in the check out line today and this was the conversation Madie had with the cashier-She is always having conversations with people when we are out somewhere. She doesn't know a stranger.

Madie: Hey!

Cashier: Hey---(not as enthused)

Madie: This is my mommy--(she points to me and smiles)

Cashier: That is your mommy?

Madie: Yes, her name meme (She knows what my name and her daddy's real name is, although not the greatest pronunciation with mine)

Her conversation was so confident and so proud to be saying that I was her mommy. I'm holding onto this moment because I have a feeling that it won't be long before announcing who her mommy is will not be that cool.

I'm Feeling Hot Hot Hot!

We just got in from running errands this morning and I just want to say...it is HOT outside. I feel for those (especially my dad and brother) who have to work out in this heat and humidity. Hopefully, it will come to an end very soon.

I am so looking forward to those 72 degree days when the wind blows and you can smell a crispness in the air, the smell that is Fall. And I'm looking forward to when we can go to the park and not have to worry about 1st degree burns from the play equipment or risk the chance of dehydration just to play. It makes me hot just thinking about it.

Oh...cooler weather...where are you? I am hot and bothered!
