Last week when I took Madie to the Dentist he asked if she used a pacifier. Madie fondly calls it "pass". I told him that she did, but only when she was sleeping and the only place she could have it was in her bed. Since she was a premmie, I was told to let her sleep with her Pass to reduce the risk of SIDS. Well, that scared me to death so of course at night when she was sleeping or napping during the day, I wanted her to have it.
While at the dentist, he gently tilted Madie's head back and showed me how her teeth were beginning to curve in the shape of her pass. You can't see it straight on...only if you lean her head
back and look from underneath. I was devastated! I didn't want to think that I was the cause of it because she hadn't given up her pass yet.
(I tried breaking her of it several months back, but I caved in and gave it back to her)
So the day after, before she took her nap, I cut a whole in the end of pass. When she got it to take a nap she looked at it and said, "look mommy, pass got a whole in it." Then she preceded to tell me that it was broke but would not part with it for her nap.
When she got up, she told me again that it was broke and wanted me to fix it. I explained that I couldn't and that I was very sorry. She kept telling me that it was broke and then she wanted to throw it away. So she did....she threw it away...I could hardly believe my eyes.
We are going on 3 days now without pass. She is doing so good and I am so proud of her. It makes me a little sad to know that she has out grown it....but I'm glad she'll have straight teeth.
Good Bye Pass! It was nice to know you.

Bye bye Pass. I know it's sad, we've just gone through the same thing w/ JuJu's Paci (pronounced Passy), and my kid's like 9 mo. older than Madie. She can count to 10 in Spanish, didn't have Paci at all for the whole time she's at school. JuJu got to where she would start her meltdowns asking for her Paci, "I want my Paaaaaccccciiiiiii!!!!" before I even got a "Hello Mommy! I was good today; I was a good friend & didn't Toddler Chuck Norris anyone today; I went poopie in the potty b/c that's why you & Daddy pay them good $...you catch my drift? Not, where's my Paci!
I was the one who caved for like a year until about a month ago, and we were down to 1 or 2 Paci's & we were ALL tired of searching for Paci, our lives being dictated by Paci.
My neice, Jordan, gave hers to her Mommy to mail to the elephants. So, JuJu gave me hers and told me to mail it to the elephants. I later learned that she meant the Elephant Brigade in the Jungle Book. The little baby elephant that's so cute needed a Paci, I guess.
Life is Good without Paci!
